According to a new study, only a quarter of under-18s read each day children today read less than any other generation and enjoy it less. In 2019, the National Literacy Trust said that only 26% of children read daily. Overall, just 53% of children said they enjoyed reading “very much” or “quite a lot”– the lowest since 2013 and a third said they couldn’t find enough books that interested them. The survey also found a very clear gender division when it comes to reading for pleasure;less than half of boys (47%) were keen readers, compared with 60% of girls.

We really hope that the numbers will rise and that boys and girls will be reading more and as much as each other.”
